This section contains articles on modeling specific LVRR freight
cars. Information on prototype LVRR freight cars, with just a list of available
models, is contained on the prototype Freight Car
page. A good site for information about the accuracy of models of non-LV cars is
John Nehrich's NEB&W
Guide to HO Scale Rolling Stock Kits.
Since it takes almost as much work to prepare these articles as
it does to write one for magazine publication, the rate at which this
information is supplied will depend on how much is contributed by readers. One
advantage of the web over the printed page is that these articles can be
presented in incomplete form, and updated as new information becomes available.
So, your feedback on articles can be used to improve the articles - thanks in
advance!

Tim used photos in the Morning Sun CNJ/LV color
guide, the 1996 Railmodel Journal, and Trainshed Cyclopedia #17 as guides
for detailing this Proto 2000 50 ft automobile boxcar. He noted that the
prototype side sills were slightly different from those obtained using the
scored marks on the inside of the P2K kit, so added styrene strip to get
the correct shapes. He also added a roping loop, used to pull the car with
an electric winch on a siding, over the B-end truck in the photo above.
(The car he was modeling seemed to have only this one loop, but other cars
had one over each truck.) A photo-etched Apex steel running board was used
to replace the wooden running board supplied with the kit. |
